What’s the meaning of the IP rating of an explosion proof camera? How to distinguish IP66, IP67, IP68 and IP69?

When we choose explosion proof cameras, we may be confused by IP 68, IP69 and other IP-code on the product nameplates and outer packages. What can the IP rating mean for an explosion proof camera? Let me introduce it.

The IP code or ingress protection code indicates how well a device is protected against water and dust. It is defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) under the international standard IEC 60529 which classifies and provides a guideline to the degree of protection provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures against intrusion, dust, accidental contact, and water. The digits indicate conformity with the conditions summarized in the table below.

Mark

First Digit and meaning (Solid Particles Prevention)

Second Digit and its meaning   (Water/Moisture Proof)

IP Code

0

No protection against solid particles

0

No water/moisture protection

1

Withstands particles of 50mm in diameter or bigger

1

Withstands dripping water with vertical incidence

2

Withstands particles of 12.5mm in   diameter or bigger

2

Withstands dripping water from above or up to 15 degrees

3

Withstands particles of 12.5mm in diameter or bigger

3

Withstands spraying water or rain ( from up to 60 degrees)

4

Withstands particles of 1mm in diameter   or bigger

4

Splash water-proof in all directions

5

Withstands ingression of sand and dust

5

Sealed against water jets

6

Completely sealed and dustproof

6

Sealed against water jets with pressure

7

Waterproof against immersion limited by time and pressure (30min, 1m in depth)

8

Completely waterproof with immersion not limited in time limit

9

Completely water-sealed even at high pressure and temperature

Take an example of CZ109 by ZUOAN, having been granted ATEX & IECEx certification, it was rated at IP66, IP68, IP69 which can be seen from the nameplate (as shown in fig.1). Apparently, it means the product is ‘ingress protection’. In accordance with IEC 60529, IPX6 means this kind of product has been tested by strong spray water. IPX8 means it was immersed in 2m fresh water for 2 hours. IPX9 means it has been tested by high-temperature and high-pressure water spray. IP6X means that CZ109 explosion proof camera, after tested, is dust seal.

CZ109 is ZUOAN new developed explosion proof bullet type CCTV camera. Its resolution can be 2MP/4MP/5MP. This explosion proof bullet camera support VF lens at 2.8-12mm.  At the front of the explosion proof body, it has the infrared light for night vision. Its body material adopts stainless steel 304/316L. At the end of the explosion proof enclosure, there is one cable entry of M25*1.5 type, which allows pigtail cable outlet.
